Skin of pure gold and stories untold; Cleopatra awakens the original diva in a one-woman, interactive performance in this retelling of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. Written and starring San Diego Critics Circle Award winning actor Joy Yvonne Jones as the woman who would not be triumphed over.

EQUITICKET: With this production, MOXIE is launching an innovative pricing model which ensures that theatre is accessible to everyone. On Previews and Industry Night all seats will be sold at a Pick-Your-Price rate. For all other performances, a quarter of the house (i.e. 25 etas) will be available at Pick-Your-Price rates. Get them before they sell out!

A limited number of $20 RUSH tickets will still be available for purchase in person at the Box Office 1 hour before each performance, as availability allows. (Online ticket sales closes online 2 hours before showtime.)

Joy Yvonne Jones Playwright and Actress she/her is a Houston native, Veteran’s wife, and mother of two. She is an acclaimed actor, poet, playwright, model, and entrepreneur who brings revolutionary art to life with every project.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Guthrie Theatre BFA Actor Training Program, Joy has performed on stages across the country. She earned the San Diego Critic Circle Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play for her portrayal of Saartjie Baartman in “Voyeurs de Venus” at Moxie Theatre.
In 2020, she wrote and starred in “Ode to My Mothers,” featured in the Old Globe Theatre’s Juneteenth Celebration and the SD Black Artist Collective’s Black Arts Festival in 2024. This powerful piece explores a young African-American woman’s journey of self-awakening through her ancestral heritage. Joy also wrote “Get on Board,” a protest musical performed at LaJolla Playhouse’s WOW fest (April 2021) and UCSD Epstein Amphitheatre (Juneteenth 2023).
Joy is a founding member and former President of the San Diego Black Artist Collective and served as Associate Artistic Director of New Village Arts Theatre in Carlsbad.

Andréa Agosto (Director) they/she is an Afro Puerto Rican theatre artist, educator, director, playwright, and voice over actor. An award winning filmmaker (Kansas City Film Fest) and actor (International Model & Talent Association), Andréa loves telling stories. They have written Codewswitchin’ is Conscious (Powers New Voices Festival) and QuickChange (Black Lady Showcase 2022). Recently, they were a participant for 2024 Classical Directing Fellowship at The Old Globe. They’ve Directed NOTES ON KILING SEVEN OVERSIGHT MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMIC STABILITY BOARD MEMBERS (MOXIE Theatre), Associate Directed Comedy of Errors (The Old Globe), Assistant Directed Henry V (The Old Globe), Co-Directed Straight (Loud Fridge), and directed the following: Buckets (Diversionary) Game of Tiaras, 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse (Falcon Players), and more. First Sunday Masked Matinee: During the FIRST Sunday Matinee performance of each show MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED at all times when indoors. We encourage anyone who is immunocompromised or at high health risk to attend this special performance. See CDPH mask recommendations here.

Masks Encouraged At All Other Performances: For all other performances mask are encouraged but not required. A mask can be provided upon request.
