A truck stop sandwich shop offers its formerly incarcerated kitchen staff a shot at redemption. Even as the shop’s callous owner tries to keep them under her thumb, the staff members are given purpose and permission to dream by their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich. Lynn Nottage

Lynn Nottage (Playwright) she/her is a playwright and a screenwriter. She is the first, and remains the only, woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice. Her plays have been produced widely in the United States and throughout the world. Nottage is the recipient of numerous awards including the MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship, Steinberg “Mimi” Distinguished Playwright Award, PEN/Laura Pels Master Playwright Award, William Inge Festival Distinguished Playwright, TIME 100 (2019), Signature One Playwright, and the Merit and Literature Award from The Academy of Arts and Letters. She is a graduate of Brown University and the Yale School of Drama. She is also a Professor of Theatre Arts in the Theatre Department at Columbia School of the Arts.

Nottage is a Doris Duke Artist, a board member for BRIC Arts Media Bklyn, Donor Direct Action, Dramatist Play Service, Second Stage and the Dramatists Guild. She recently completed a three-year term as an Artist Trustee on the Board of the Sundance Institute. She is member of the The Dramatists Guild, WGAE, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Park Avenue Armory.

 

Delicia Turner Sonnenberg

Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (Director) she/her is a founder and the former Artistic Director of MOXIE Theatre, which she helmed for the first 12 seasons receiving the Des McAnuff New Visions Award for “Risk Taking Leadership and Body of Work” and “2015 Director of the Year” from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle. In addition to MOXIE, Delicia has directed plays for The Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Round House Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival, Utah Shakespeare Festival, San Diego REP, among many others. Some honors include: Theatre Communications Group’s New Generations Program, San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Craig Noel awards, Patté Theatre awards, NAACP awards, a Women’s International Living Legacy Award, Van Lier Fund Fellowship (Second Stage Theatre) and the New York Drama League’s Directors Program.

Tanya AlexanderTanya Alexander (Clyde) she/her is a high school valedictorian, an alumnus of AMDA-New York, and a Summa Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa graduate of St. Louis University’s theatre program. DeAndre SimmonsDeAndre Simmons (Montrellous) he/him is a San Deigo native making his MOXIE Theatre debut. His recent musical credits include Boatman in Sunday In The Park With George And Ken In Ain’t Misbehavin, both with CCAE Theatricals; Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar and Kerchak in Tarzan, both with Moonlight Theatre. Other credits include playing Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Father in Children Of Eden, Don Quixote in Man Of La Mancha and others. As an opera singer, DeAndre has sung all over the globe in operas by Handel to Mozart to Rossini and Verdi. DeAndre is a graduate of San Diego School of Performing Arts, University of the Arts and The Curtis Institute of Music. He is a protege of Barbara Cook and studied acting with Uta Hagen.

 

Marcel Ferrin portraitMarcel Ferrin (Rafael) he/him is excited to be making his MOXIE debut! He previously played Bobby in American Buffalo, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, Steven in Bring It On The Musical, and understudied for David in El Borracho at The Old Globe. Most recently he appeared as Jared in Ripped (Loud Fridge Theatre Group) and as Johnny in the World Premiere of The October Night of Johnny Zero (Backyard Renaissance). He would like to thank MOXIE Theatre for the opportunity to join this production and all of those in attendance for supporting local theatre.

 

 

 

 

Deja Fields

Deja Fields (Letitia) she/her is a Graduate of UCLA’s Musical Theater Program (B.A) is very excited to be back on MOXIE’s stage. This San Diego native was most recently seen touring the World as Meekah (Blippi Wonderful World Tour), and just originated the role of Lois in Sh’ Boom: A Christmas Miracle (Sierra Repertory Theater). Other theater credits include A Black Family Christmas (New Village Arts), The Niceties as Zoe Reed (Moxie Theater), The Odyssey (The Old Globe Theater). Fields is also a recording artist who has sung backup for Stevie Wonder and Lena Byrd Miles and can’t wait to continue her journey in New York one day. Follow her journey on IG: Dejaafields

 

Justin Lang

Justin Lang (Jason) he/him was last seen in Backyard Renaissance Theater’s August: Osage County as Sheriff Deon Gilbeau. Past MOXIE credits include; Voyeurs de Venus, Peerless, The Curious Case of the Watson Intelligence, Trouble in Mind, HickoryDickory, Poster Boys, Ten Cent Night, The Crucible, Eurydice, Expecting Isabel, Dog Act. First Sunday Masked Matinee: During the FIRST Sunday Matinee performance of each show MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED at all times when indoors. We encourage anyone who is immunocompromised or at high health risk to attend this special performance. See CDPH mask recommendations here.

Masks Encouraged At All Other Performances: For all other performances mask are encouraged but not required. A mask can be provided upon request.
